Yo hablo
Life, Spanish October 30th, 2007It used to be a dream of mine to speak every language in the world fluently. I had a list of languages and the order I wanted to master them. Spanish, Irish Gaelic, French, German, Russian, Japanese… but then I actually started taking Spanish. And I realized that even if I try really hard, it is really hard to master. Sure, I can say many (basic) things if I talk slow and think hard but I can’t get across many things when I’m having a conversation with an actual Spanish person.
Pero yo quiero hablar muchas linguas.
But I want to speak many languages.
To my friend reading this that speaks many languages (you know who you are), you’re lucky. You grew up in Europe and for some reason people there pick up languages easier. Probably from traveling to multiple places and having them so close.
Yo tengo hambre. Adios, mis (readers). Yo iba (? am going to) comer almorzar.
Ugh.

*chortle* I find I get the same results when trying to converse in Japanese (I teach myself.) I actually did wish I was multilingual…wait, I am - English, Mandarin, Malay and some other Chinese dialects! xD Well, I don’t speak any European languages/Spanish…gah.
Still, there’s something interesting I read (I wanna be a psychiatrist, anyways) which relates a bit to this, but I’ll cut out the jargon: Because of how our brain cells work, the [average] “best” time in which to learn other languages is just before the age of 7 - you can still do so after that, but you’ll most likely speak it with the wrong accent.
Though I’m not completely say that you’ll do badly if you learn them later; this rule’s mostly for the speaking sense. People might still do better in writing. =P
So there, explains why it’s quite hard. Blame your brain. xD But well, keep up the effort! =) *cheers Skye on*

I yearn to master the same thing myself, someday. I’ve tried learning French, but it was extremely difficult for me, since I’ve had a speach disabillity, which unfortunately still affects my speaking to this day.
Anyways, I think with a bit more practice and learning, you will eventually get to where you want to be. :3 I’m sure you can do it, you just need some good motivation. =D

You can’t learn and master a whole language after you’ve gone through puberty. At least thats what my teacher told me.

I wish I can speak in many languages too, at least Japanese or Korean. x| And I’m pretty much the same as Ari, knowing 4 languges except any European language. But I don’t know any Hokkien (except the very-super-basic ones) although I’m a Hokkien. -shame on me-
