You don’t belong here
Politics November 17th, 2007As a follow-up to yesterday’s GUILTY … CUZ I’M A MUSLIM?, I got to thinking about the short phrase that the professor told the girl before spitting on her: “You don’t belong here” and I realized that, if you really think along the same prejudiced lines as that professor, and many others, none of us really belong…
Muslims, Arabs, Middle Eastern peoples and anyone similar don’t belong because they’re all terrorists.
Christians don’t belong because they’re the ones that did all the crusades to kill people and always think they’re right.
Jews don’t belong because they killed Jesus on the cross and steal all our money by having all of the money jobs.
All other religions don’t belong because they’re too small to matter.
Japanese people don’t belong because they all bombed Pearl Harbor or supported those that did. But all Asians are the same, right? So let’s group them all in there.
All Spanish people don’t belong because they’re all illegal immigrants that won’t learn English.
Black people don’t belong because they’re the ones that do all of the crime, drugs, and gangs.
Indians don’t belong because they don’t want to belong, staying on their reservations and unfairly owning casinos to support their people. And Indians from India don’t belong because they share the same name–Indians.
White people don’t belong because they took the Native Americans from their lands, owned slaves, think they’re the best, and do anything to preserve that.
All other peoples can either be generalized into one of the groups above and, if they can’t, don’t belong because their population is too small to matter.
I guess the point is that NONE OF US BELONG. So why don’t we all just not-belong together?
Just as clarification, since I don’t use sarcasm much in my posts, I’m not being serious about these people not belonging. I included myself, after all: White, Christian. I’m trying to make the point that each and every person, when generalized and discriminated against, could be said to “not belong.” We shouldn’t judge a person by what people like them have done, generalizing and stereotyping. Each person is an individual, no matter who or what they are. It’s stupid to generalize and this post was an attempt to show how stupid it is.

It’s quite sad that even in places which dub themselves “a melting pot of many different cultures + people”, there’s still a lot of messed-up racism. Take my place for example. Even in my country, some people from different religious/ethnic groups are still at “war” with each other over petty things like “bumiputera benefits” and all that jazz. 50 years of celebrating diversity in Malaysia, woohoo.
There was a terrible incident in which during the Bali bombing season, some non-Muslim peers in my old school lashed out on the Muslim Studies teacher and said, “you’ve been brainwashing the Muslim students into hating us all” and such. *shakes head*
Is diversity to be shunned or celebrated, I wonder? If it’s the former, someone please turn us all into androids. Problem solved.

That is my biggest pet peeves. I don’t get it why people have to regard themselves as the best to get to a position that is higher than everyone elses; to show themselves as the most important people in the world. It gets me. I hate it when I walk into (I’m sorry, Skye, My love. I mean completely no offense!) a ‘white store’, Hollister for example, and they would give me the most hateful look, as if I don’t belong there. Or when I would walk into a restaurant with my friends (which consists of a black person, a Hispanic person, and white)the only one that people would regard and be nice to is my white friend. I don’t mind as much but when it comes prominent, yeah, I get annoyed. When I go to work, the customers that come in have nothing good to say about anyone else, but about themselves and they are ignorant of everything around them. If people have a racist problem, I think they should just keep it to themselves and don’t express it. If you have to put in a fake mask when you can’t genuinely treat someone else nicely, then do it! The world would falsely be more happy. It is a strong dream that people would treat each other as equally. One of my friends, whom I love so dearly because of this, is a Caucasian man. He is the Godfather to an adorable mixed Hispanic/black little girl, is friends with all races including Indians and African Americans at his job, listens to type of music from Jimmy Buffet to Flo-Rida, and is reaching across the cultural spectrum to show affection to an Asian girl. That is what I call a role model to society.
America, we say we embrace the culture melting pot. “Come to our country where freedom is for everyone one!” Is that a scam for different cultures to come to America for us to shun them publicly when they get here?
Sorry got a little emotional there…It’s favorite field to debate about.

Great way to put it! You missed Asians.
We’re not a small population lol.
Well, I don’t seen much of obvious discrimination nowadays. Although I know it still matters a whole lot here and there. It’s probably not something that could be changed too easily.
By the way, you’ve been tagged.
Response: I did include Asians. Reread the Japanese one. I grouped you all in there cuz there “isnt any difference between Asians…all the same.”
