Sunday Monkeys
Josh, Music, Other March 31st, 2008Josh’s Dad has “Michelle” by the Beatles as his ringtone that plays whenever his daughter Michelle calls him. I’ve had the song for a while but never listened to it. But it got stuck in my head last night. So I played it today to see what the rest of the song was. After multiple plays, I started to memorize the words. Or, what I thought they were.
Tonight I asked my stepmom. I said “Lemme ask you a question. It’s about the Beatles which is your time so you should know.” She kind of laughed and said ok. So I started singing the song and then asked her what he really said. Because it sounded like thats what he said and, knowing the Beatles, he might have actually said that (weird lyrics) but I wanted to make sure.
So I sang:
“Michelle, my belle
Sunday monkey won’t play piano
and some play piano and some”
She kind of looked at me like I was crazy for a minute. Then said: “It’s French”
I looked it up.
He says:
“Michelle, my belle
Sont des mots qui vont tres bien
ensemble tres bien ensemble”
If you listen to it reading my lyrics, it still fits… (please listen by clicking that link and tell me if I’m crazy or not…)

You’re totally not crazy! I completely hear what you thought the lyrics were…in a weird tone. But yeah, I can hear it, so you’re not alone Skye! Pretty nice song too

You’re not crazy. I took French in high school so I translated what your stepmom said and it did appear in the song. I’m also weird in a way that I followed the lyrics on a different page too. Pretty song; weird that I haven’t heard it - my brother loves Beatles songs.

Yea. I heard it too.
haha. But if you listen closely, it is French because the way he pronounced it was quite nasal. I understand what you heard the first time you heard it because the rest of the song is in English anyway.

Haha! You’re not crazy XP. I can hear it too.
You’re not alone, really. I used to think a line in a song went “And when I leave minor lipping for last” when in fact it was German and actually went “Und wenn ein Lied meine Lippen verlässt”. (It’s by Söhne Mannheims, and I have no idea how it found its way on my playlist)
