mother’s love wip
Art, Effie, WIP April 8th, 2008EDIT:// Scanned version uploaded
I finally finished the drawing I’ve been working on off-and-on for about five/six months. It is 18×24in and of my best friend Effie and her daughter Kairi. The photo is one I took back in August 07. This drawing took 16 hours total. I didn’t plan it this way but I consider it the sequel to my drawing of me and my mom that I did 3-4 years ago (no scan because it’s big). I’m going to find out the information from my local Kinko’s and see if they can scan it for me. If they can, I’ll get the one of me and my mom scanned at the same time. My scanner doesn’t work for that big.
Here’s the progression:
These photos were taken with my phone so excuse the lower quality. When I get the scan, you’ll see it better.

I know that some things are off (the baby’s hand is moved a little, her eyes are bigger, dress color, baby’s hair, etc.), however some aren’t off but look it because of the angle of the picture (had to take from there to reduce glare). Trust me that it looks better in person and that it will also look better in the scan.

Wow. That’s amazing! You’re getting even better. This is one of your best works Skye! I absolutely love the details you put it, it’s worth every hour you spent on it. And top of it, it captures a beautiful moment. =D

It doesn’t look much like the original but it doesn’t look disproportioned either. I love it. I think it’s one of your best works yet.

In a straight-photo, scan, or in person, it looks like the original; I just couldn’t take the photo like that because of glare from lighting.
Thank you, though
I spent more time on this one, doing a background and paying more attention to hair than usual. It really did make a difference…

Definitely agree with the above commenters - it’s absolutely stunning! Are you planning on framing it or preserving it in any way?
Response: Thanks
I’m going to try to get it scanned in the next few days to post on SF. Then frame it for her and give it to her next time I see her (either first week of May or mid-August depending on when I get to go up there). I called Kinkos this morning and they can scan it but its $5/square inch, meaning $15 total. I know the main campus of my university has a high-duty scanner and I think they’re cheaper but they’re an hour away (I’d be spending $15 in gas just getting there and back, no exaggeration). Today when I go to class I’m going to see if the one I go to has a scanner like that for cheaper.
