Fairy Tale Analysis

University, Writing 5 Comments »

This semester I decided to take a class called Fairy Tales. I did this because I like them, and I thought “oh cool.” However, what I didn’t realize, was that there were many books that analyze fairy tales and that the alleged meanings were…quite interesting. Amanda originally convinced me to take the class and, knowing her, I’m starting to wonder if she knew ahead of time what fairy tales really mean. In a previous post Rilla wanted to know what we actually did in this class.

Well, for our midterm, we had to write fairy tale. Sounds fun, however, it had to keep to the form of a Grimms fairy tale as laid out by two texts we had to read that analyzed fairy tales. Then, we had to write an analysis of the fairy tale that we wrote. Hear that? An analytical essay analyzing and picking apart your own writing. Needless to say, this fairy tale isn’t what I would normally write and, when I did write it, I was not putting these meanings in there because I believe its what they mean. It’s what my mind has been warped into having to think. O_O

You can read my tale here. It’s called “Weeping Willow”. And you can read the analysis below.

Looking Ahead to Overload

University 1 Comment »

In the past few days I’ve been looking to find out more about what I’ll need to do for my Elementary Education major. At the end of this semester, I’ll have enough credits to be classified as a Junior.

So, in the class I’m taking (my first one on teaching), Applied Learning Theory, I asked some of the others if they knew the details since they were talking about other classes and seemed to already know / already into it. One guy let me copy his list of classes required and one of the girls explained to me the first exam listed. She said that you have to take it before entering into the program, and then after the test you get an advisor and they explain more of the details / help you pick out what classes are best for you.

So, I look up this test on our school website. According to the site, you have to take the test to be admitted into the program (as she said), but contact your program advisor (which you can’t get until you are in the program) for more information on the test. ?

Then, I read on, and find that I also have to take a Florida mandatory test called the CLAST. It gives the passing scores but not what the scores are out of. After digging away on Google, I find out. It’s basically a 73% passing on three of the subtests but I still can’t find out about the essay. Passing is a 6. 6 out of what?

Then, I find (on the school website) a list of required classes. However, these add on many classes to what the paper the guy gave me said. This is supposed to be a two year thing but all the classes required make it more like three. So, I’m basically looking ahead into the future at complete overload:
