I finally finished the drawing I’ve been working on off-and-on for about five/six months. It is 18×24in and of my best friend Effie and her daughter Kairi. The photo is one I took back in August 07. This drawing took 16 hours total. I didn’t plan it this way but I consider it the sequel to my drawing of me and my mom that I did 3-4 years ago (no scan because it’s big). I’m going to find out the information from my local Kinko’s and see if they can scan it for me. If they can, I’ll get the one of me and my mom scanned at the same time. My scanner doesn’t work for that big.

Per Drawing Project Time…

9 hours. Not good enough for SF. Scanned each section individually and pasted them all together since the original was a 16×20 page and bigger than my scanner. Each section was roughly 5×8, I think. I go sleep now. Been drawing literally all day and I’m not happy with the outcome at all.

I will be leaving on a mini-vacation to see my mom’s side of the family on Friday. I will be seeing my bestest friend ever Effie on Saturday. And I will probably be coming back on Monday, but maybe Tuesday.

I had a plan for a drawing for Effie but it wasn’t coming out how I wanted and I’d been postponing it/procrastinating all “summer.” So now I have five days and no picture.

So. Tomorrow (monday), wednesday, and thursday, I will be drawing like crazy. I can’t Tuesday cuz I have my Family Values Tour concert (hehemwhahaha). And Friday I’m leaving. *sigh*

I’ve been brainstorming it all day at work.

It is going to be an 18×24 picture (a normal sheet of paper is 8.5×11). Normally my drawings are plain portraits. Just the person, no background, no hidden stuffage, no meaning.

I want this one to be different and special. I’ve known Effie for about 5 years and she has been one of my biggest supporters in my drawing (second only to my mom). Mick (her son) was one of my first drawings; before I had a scanner so no picture online as her mom has the original. I want to try new things with this and really make it as good as possible.

I want her to light up and so “Oh my goosssh!” in her Effie way.

My plan is to have this drawing. It is going to be of a table where someone (Effie) has been working on a picture album. In the center of the table is going to be a photo album. The left side will be done (so it’ll have a few snapshot pictures of her kids within this drawing). The right side will have that clear-plastic cover pulled back and be half done. Around it will be snapshots (polaroids) strewn around, each with their own picture. There will be a shawl behind it, bunched up with a locket being held up by it. On one side will be a picture of her daughter and one side will be a picture of her son. Also on the table will be a rubber ducky (Kairi), turtle stickers on the picture album (Mick) and in the beads of the locket I’m going to draw dragon-related stuff (Jason, her dudeperson). There will be also be a Strawberry Shortcake coffee mug (Effie) and a mirror that will show the reflection of Effie holding Kairi. It’ll be as though she was making the picture album and got up to get a crying Kairi.

I’m going to get a frame for it but when I give it to her, I’m going to take it out and have her write captions on the bottoms of the strewn-about polaroids, since it would be her handwriting if she were making it.

The only one that size that I’ve timed was 3 years ago: the one of me and my mom. It took 20 hours. This will probably be about the same if not longer. In three days. (give or take some extra random hours on Tuesday and Friday.

So, I’ll be on some (as breaks) but not a lot. And if I am, hit me and tell me to get back to my drawing. I’ll be sure to take some WIP pictures. ~.o
