Soul Catcher

Writing No Comments »

For the past few days this phrase has been bouncing around in my head: watercolor wings. Today I sat down at my computer, opened notepad, and the words just started coming out. Do you remember my old article on writing poems?. Well, in it I mentioned this “muse” that comes out every once in a while and that, when she does, I just listen and type what she says without editing her thoughts. Today, when she was done, I didn’t edit at all. The poem I wrote just came out and was finished. It isn’t even my usual format or setup. It doesn’t rhyme, it doesn’t have my set stanzas. It just is. I literally wrote it in 5 minutes. I actually think it might be my favorite poem I’ve ever written.

And, since, I’ve been trying to figure out what it means. I don’t even know myself, though I’ve come up with a few theories. But I want to know what you think too. Maybe together we can figure this thing out.

Fairy Glass - Skye

I see you
standing there, holding
the glass that catches
the light.

It mesmerizes,
playing with the colors, dancing
to the musical notes it carries:
faerie magic.

It flows,
these watercolored beams, swirling
through the particles, glowing
when touched.

You call to me,
wanting me, asking
me to join them, to shine
with them forever.

I was chatting with Aelyn in IM and my thoughts progressed into this theory. So, I’m going to copy/paste from the conversation since it shows my thought processes.

its kinda like that moth-to-the-flame thing. but its a prism. but then not, cuz its fairy magic and its subdued watercolors rather than bright prism colors…..

i mean. i get a few things…. physical attraction (moth to flame, viewer to prism), beauty (outward attraction) but then also death and sacrifice (giving up something to be a part of something, or giving up something for the bigger thing).

but then it couldn’t be the bigger thing because it is physical, outward…not inward.

i picture it as this fairy/sorceress/cloaked woman holding this diamond-shaped prism thing. and the light comes out like the sun, but its watercolor-like colors. and it hits the dust particles, making them glow. and the speaker is attracted to it…mezmerized. and gives up everything to become a part of it. so, maybe, its like this soul catcher. maybe it captures them, which adds to the beauty

What is it to you?
